Answer : China

1st deep-sea radar

In 2023, a team of Chinese scientists from Xiamen University, led by Professor Shangguan Mingjia, developed the world’s first deep-sea radar-like system using single-photon Raman LiDAR technology. This breakthrough system can detect objects up to 1,000 meters below the sea surface.

Though technically it’s LiDAR (light detection and ranging) and not traditional radar (radio waves), this is considered the first electromagnetic-based deep-sea detection system—earning it the title of the first deep-sea “radar.”
