• Whistleblower Richard Boyle was in the news because of the outcome of his long legal battle.

• Richard Boyle worked at the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). He exposed how the ATO was using harsh debt collection methods (like garnishee notices) against small businesses and individuals.

• After going public, he faced criminal charges for secretly recording conversations and taking documents from his workplace.

• In May 2025, he pleaded guilty to four charges as part of a deal to avoid jail. Many other charges were dropped.

• On August 28, 2025, the South Australian District Court sentenced him to a 12-month good-behavior bond with no conviction recorded. This meant he avoided jail time.

Answer : Qantas

• The airline that declared record profits is Qantas.

• In its 2024–25 financial year, Qantas announced an underlying profit of about A$2.39 billion.

• It also reported a net profit after tax of around A$1.61 billion, which is one of the highest in its history.

• The strong result came mainly because of very high passenger demand and increased revenue from both domestic and international flights.

• This shows that Qantas has made a strong recovery after the pandemic years.

3. Which country’s tariffs created economic challenges for India (as per Finance Ministry)?

Answer : USA

• In its July 2025 economic review released on August 27, 2025, India’s Finance Ministry noted that while the immediate impact of the newly imposed U.S. tariffs on Indian exports appeared limited, the broader, longer-term consequences could pose significant economic challenges. Negotiations with the U.S. were deemed crucial to mitigate these ripple effects

• The Finance Ministry of India said that tariffs imposed by the United States (USA) have created economic challenges for India.

• In its July 2025 Economic Review, the ministry explained that while the immediate effect of U.S. tariffs on Indian exports is limited, the secondary and long-term effects could hurt India’s economy.

• The U.S. recently doubled tariffs to 50% on many Indian goods.

• These higher tariffs could reduce India’s exports and create trade difficulties unless India diversifies its markets.

• The ministry stressed that India–U.S. trade negotiations will be very important to reduce these risks.

• In August 2025, the Australian government confirmed its decision to remove 500 “nuisance tariffs.”

• These tariffs were called “nuisance” because they raised very little revenue but created a lot of paperwork and extra costs for businesses and consumers.

• The removal covers everyday products such as hand tools, clothing, fridges, menstrual products, toothbrushes, and many more.

• This is considered the biggest tariff reform in 20 years in Australia.

• The reform is expected to save businesses millions of dollars in compliance costs, simplify trade, and improve productivity.

• However, experts said it may not directly reduce food prices or cost of living significantly, but it will make trade easier and cheaper in the long run.
